Education in the Brazos Valley
With two top-performing Independent School Districts--College Station and Bryan-- Blinn Community College in Bryan, and Texas A&M University in College Station, education is at the heart of the core values of the Brazos Valley.
One of Texas top 10 school districts, College Station Independent School District was named a "Blue Ribbon School District" by Expansion Management Magazine and Newsweek magazine listed A&M Consolidated High School as one of American's top 100 high schools.
As the oldest county-owned junior college in Texas, Blinn is entering their 118th year providing education services in south central Texas and currently rank 10th in size among the 50 college districts in the state. With 17 major areas of study, Blinn intends its two-year associate degrees to provide freshman- and sophomore-level courses that enable students to enter as juniors at a four-year institution.
Texas A&M University is a land-grant, sea-grant and space-grant institution located in College Station, Texas. The university’s enrollment includes approximately 44,000 students studying for degrees in 10 academic colleges.
Established in 1876 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, the name of the institution was changed in 1963 to Texas A&M University to more accurately reflect its expanding role as a leader in teaching, research, and public service for the state, nation and world. The initials "A" and "M" are a link to the university’s past; they no longer represent any specific words as the school’s curriculum has grown to include not only agriculture and engineering, but architecture, business, education, geosciences, liberal arts, medicine, science, and veterinary medicine.
